Derby day belongs to Academy

Brora Rangers.....2......Wick Academy....3
(ht: 1-2)

WICK ACADEMY evened things up in the derby stakes with a well-earned 3-2 win over rivals Brora, at Dudgeon Park.
The Scorries opened their account in five minutes with a Gary Weir goal after good play by Craig Shearer. The visitors had a chance to add to their score on the half-hour mark but Richard Macadie’s penalty was saved by Bell’s stop.
But there was no doubt about Academy’s second goal, David Allan controlling a cross ball well before dispatching it into the back of the net. Brora replied just before the break, with Scott McKain heading home a Grant corner.
The Dudgeon Park side had a golden opportunity to level things after play resumed but it obviously wasn’t a night for penalty goals, as Ross Grant’s effort was up and over. (the cross bar) Academy went on to recover their two-goal advantage in the 69th minute with a superb free kick from Macadie.
Frenetic football from both sides produced a Brora goal from Liam Baxter who stopped keeper More’s clearance and netted. Brora piled on the pressure in a bid to get a share of the points but to no avail, leaving Academy with a jubilant trip over the Ord, the victors.
