No let-up on speed campaign warn police

DRIVERS in the Northern Constabulary area have been warned that the Force’s high profile, on drivers whose speeds are “excessive and dangerous”, will be maintained during the summer and heavy punishments face offenders.
The warning comes one week after the Easter weekend crackdown, and on the day that a male driver was charged with dangerous driving, having been caught at a speed of 128mph on the A9 at Daviot. He was also found to have no insurance and, as well as being charged with this, he had his car impounded.
Inspector John Smith, head of road policing for Northern Constabulary, commented: “It is staggering that any right-minded driver would choose to drive at this kind of speed on our roads, risking his own and his passenger’s life and very selfishly the lives of other motorists. Despite repeated warnings of the dangers of such speed and the high level of police enforcement across our Force area, this driver has chosen to ignore these warnings and will now face a court appearance and substantial punishment."
Inspector Smith said that every day motorists continue to be caught speeding and targeted police enforcement to detect speeding motorists will continue, and those who choose to use the road of the Highlands and Islands, in this manner will have to face the consequences of their actions, whether through injury or the loss of their right to drive on our roads.
