Man alleged to have committed five offences

A LYBSTER man is facing a string of road traffic charges.
Andrew McBeath, of Mowat Place, appeared from custody at a special sitting of Wick Sheriff Court, on Saturday.
He denied taking and driving away a car, in Main Street, Lybster, driving without insurance, failing to give police information about the identity of a driver alleged to have been involved in an offence, failing to give a roadside breath specimen, and failing to provide two specimens of breath at Wick police station, on April 30.
McBeath (33) will return to court for his trial on July 21.

Accused of assault

A BOWER man is to stand trial on a charge of assault.
David Crouden, of Thura Place, appeared from custody and pleaded not guilty. The charge alleges that he repeatedly punched a man on the head, at Riverside Road, Thurso, on April 29, and grabbed hold of his clothing, while on bail.
Crouden (25) was granted bail by Honorary Sheriff Murray Lamont and will return to court on July 21 for his trial.

Alleged to have alarmed driver

AN AYRSHIRE man has been accused of alarming a motorist with his conduct.
Charles McLaughlin, of Louden Mains Farm, New Mills, appeared from custody and denied a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.
The charge alleges that he shouted and swore at a driver, in Beach Road, Thurso, on April 28, in a manner likely to cause the person fear or alarm. McLaughlin denied an additional charge of possessing a knife, without a reasonable excuse.
McLaughlin (31) will return to court for his trial on July 21.

Two accused of assault

TWO people are to stand trial on charges of assaulting each other.
Carl Howley, of Cuppin, Papa Westray, appeared from custody with Melanie Munro, of Cairndhuna Terrace, Wick. They pleaded not guilty to assaulting each other, at Cairndhuna Terrace - Howley’s former address – on April 28.
The charges alleged that Munro (25) punched Howley in the face and struck him with a knife to his injury. She also denied an additional charge of possessing the Class B drug, cannabis resin.
Howley (27) is accused of punching Munro on her head and grabbing her and compressing her neck, to her injury, while on bail.
Both accused were granted bail and will return to court for their trial, on July 21.
* Howley made a further appearance in court today (Tuesday) and admitted breaching a condition of bail, imposed at the earlier hearing. He had undertaken not to approach or contact his co-accused, Melanie Munro, but the court heard that he had telephoned her at an address in Battery Road, Wick, on April 30.
Howley, whose address was given as 37 Cairndhuna Terrace, Wick, was remanded in custody pending reports and will re-appear on May 9th.
