Sponsorship issue will be dealt with after knife case is over

GLOBAL sports giant, Nike, have said that they are reserving their comments on the case of an international surfer they sponsor,
until the court outcome of a knife-carrying allegation, against him is known.
Charles Martin was charged, last week, with the offence in Thurso, where he had been competing in the town’s Wave North festival. The 21-year-old subsequently appeared at Wick Sheriff Court and pleaded not guilty. The knife involved, was stated to have an11.2cms, serated, blade.
Martin, who hails from Guadeloupe in the French West Indies, was granted bail by Sheriff Andrew Berry and will return to court on July 20 for his trial. An interpreter will again be engaged to assist him.
Ryan Greenwood, head of Nike’s PR and Communications in the UK, said that Martin, who won the European Junior Surfing Championship, last year, confirmed that they sponsor Martin but added that they would be making no further comment while the court case was in progress.
