Whilst out today on the small single-track road between Bower and Gillock, stopped at a place which showed on the map a 'Monument', there was a monument there to those who died in 'The Great War'.
However it gave a list of names and the title was The Great War 1914 to 1919.. Thought it finished 11th Nov 1918?.. had a quick Google, but as it's a local area, anyone any ideas?

I look at that memorial a lot, it's just up the road from me but I hadn't noticed the date. I think I mentioned in another thread, it's so sad how many men and boys from the same family died, and in such a small community.

I believe it runs to 1919 to include those who died of their wounds after the end of hostilities.

It says 1919 on the Monument as the Treaty of Versailles was not signed until 28 June 1919 this ended the War between Germany on the one side and France, Italy, Britain and other minor allied powers on the other side, this then officially ended war between those countries.

The Hostilities did cease at 11am 11/11/1918 the actual Peace was Not offical until the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on the 28th June 1919.
