Hello, I'm going to be staying in Thurso on the 26th and 27th of May, and would like to go to a few pubs to hear some live traditional/folk music. Might get a bus to Wick and explore there too. I'd be really grateful for suggestions. Any other things you'd recommend a visitor should see would be great too - I like pubs, music, history and walking. Thanks for your time,
welshyie

Your coming to the north of Scotland on the 26/27th of May, you want to hear trad / folk music, and you are not coming that little bit further for the Orkney Folk Festival on the 26 - 29th May? I guess a lot of the Caithness Folk music talent will have louped on the boat to Orkney that weekend, to spectate and have a good swally if nothing else. I half imagine that the trad / folk music scene in Thurso will be rather deid on the days you mention, but you never know!

I am! I'm going over to Stromness for the last few days of the festival :-) But I'm staying in Thurso first because the hostel didn't have availability and I didn't want to lug all my camping gear up.
Cheers

Pubs, history, music and walking eh... you sound a bit like myself, except I'd add taxis to that. just in case the pubs were too far apart and you were running out of time

haha, aye well I hope I get involved in some all night partying, that'll be fun. But I'll need a rest at some point.
I'll make sure to get a few taxi numbers just to be safe! :-)
