can anyone tell me how to insert a link when posting threads. I am trying to insert a link from the orcadian onto the .org forum. thanks

You can either copy and paste the URL directly into the post like this...

http://forum.caithness.org/index.php

Or use the wee icon above that looks like the Earth and a chain 'link'.
