View Full Version : How an online squabble works

Shamelessly lifted off the bike forumI frequent...but applies almost equally on here.

:Razz

Someone posts a controversial thread.

Someone replies saying it’s out of order and states why.

Someone agrees it’s out of order and states the same reason why.

Someone posts a popcorn eating smiley, we don’t know if they agree with the original poster or not.

Someone posts that they tend to agree with the OP and quotes something to back them up from another website.

Someone posts something very insulting about the OP and offers no reason why they think he was out of order.

Someone asks where the mods are when you need them.

The OP replies to the first person who said it was out of order and tries to dig himself out of the hole he’s dug.

The OP replies to the person who insulted him, making references to their lack of education and class background in a condescending way.

A mod replies that they don’t have any powers to edit posts in this section of the forum, but he thinks the OP has overstepped the rules and posts a smiley waving his finger.

The insulter, insults the OP again, deletes his avatar, signature and stops posting on the forum for a couple of months. He then realises nobody misses him and sneaks back.

Five or six more people object to the original post and hint at it being indicative of the low standards now acceptable on the forum, in the UK, in society in general or due to our poor educational system. The Police may get blamed at this point.

The OP posts a really long explanation of his point of view signing off by saying it’ll be the last he’ll say on the matter in this thread.

Someone will post a smiley of a dummy being spat out.

Someone trying to defuse the agreement will post "it's a good job you didn't ask what oil to use!" followed by the ducking below a wall smiley.

A mod will edit the original post.

The OP will return and complain about fascist mods and censorship.

Someone will agree with him. And say they’ve been a victim of mod power too.

Someone will say they’ve had enough of all this arguing and that they’re going for a ride on their bike, even though it’s half eleven at night.

A few people will post about where they’ve ridden today just to prove they’re not just sad internet dudes. Someone will say that their bikes broke down or they would be out riding it.

Someone will mention 1200 riders in reference to the bike being broke down

Someone will mention the GS club and how boring it is and it’s this kind of debate that makes this site so good.

A member of the Police force will stand up for the Police force and say that they’re really all great people just like everyone else but they have a job to do.

Someone will agree that the Police are doing their best given the way they’re portrayed in the media.

Someone posts a YouTube music video of a song about reconciliation (or violence and destruction depending on their sympathies with the OP)

Another mod will post that he agrees with the OP and can’t see what the fuss is about.

Someone posts something very insulting about Mods in general.

Some pictures of cats with silly captions will be posted.

The 'Clique' will be mentioned and someones post count will also be called into question (either it will be too high or too low)

The OP will close the thread himself and won’t post for a week hoping that everyone will forget about what he said.

Someone who feels that they haven’t had the right to reply will start a new thread about the old thread.

And so begins the cycle again.

Personally, I think the Police do a fairly good job, despite them always being portrayed in Doolallysons Dairy as going round nicking folk for misdemeanours, growing drugs and other miscellaneous crimes.

I object to the original post and think it indicative of the low standards now acceptable on the forum, in the UK, in society in general and it's due to our poor educational system. The Police also must accept some of the blame.

If I were the original poster I should now make reference to your lack of education and lower class background in a condescending way.

Unfortunately I am not the OP.

Also. Sir, you are a gentleman, and would not take advantage of a wayward chap whose birthright was so poor that he couldn't even have sold it for a mess of potage, never having seen either a mess or a potage in his young life. So poor he had nobbut one boot, and so had to hop to his elementary school, where he learned 1.5 "R"s (all his poor father could afford).

The only thing that sustained him as he sucked raw bacon rind on cold winter nights was the whispered knowledge, garnered at his Grandaddy's knee (well, ankle, as Grandaddy liked to drink a bit), that his Irish heritage began with the startling fact that he was directly descended from Brian Boru, King of All Ireland.

And that , somehow, made up for the grinding poverty, the straw suit, and the clog. He bestrode the world, like a Colussus, and made his heady way, his fortune, and his eventual "closing of the days" in Bonnie Caithness, where he festers comfortably with a head full of memories and a heart full of song.......

In honesty, I have had enough of all this, and am going for a ride on my push bike, even though its quarter past nine at night. Can anyone recommend any roads to ride on, and advise what time they will be open?
