Perhaps then you can explain the re-writing of the Bible to suit contemporary mores since before the time of Henry VIII and the dissolution of the monasteries?

The Bible has been brought up to date many times, but only in its language in order that it can always be in the language of a given generation. Its essential message however is unchanged.

A book filled with bloodshed, political chicanery, adultery, etc. What, then, is the essential message. Be so kind as to express your idea of what the essential message is and why it has failed utterly to change our human lot for the better.
