My kids had a wee friend, about ages with our oldest who was about 3 or 4, who still talked like that. One day a band of little girls arrived on our doorstep, the incoherent one at the front. She regaled me with this stuff for about 30 seconds. I looked at her blankly, then our daughter piped up, in the voice she still uses when Dad is being a bit slow, from the back of the crowd "She says the girls all need a sweetie."

Until she was almost 4 my niece used to speak gibberish... or so we thought until one day at the park she had a long conversation with a little girl whose first language was Chinese. That made us think twice!
