Hi Starfish,

Wick Family centre are starting a new babies and toddler group. Next wednesday between 10- 12 they are holding a meet and greet so everyone can get to know each other. It's not specifically for single parents but there has been alot of interest from parents who are just looking for some where to socialise with there children and as the group will be run by the parents it may be a good place to meet other single parents? The girls are already looking into fundraising and other social events.

Hope this helps

I hope you can find something. I have a daughter who is a sole parent and she can use all the help she can get. Likewise, my mother was a sole parent and got no help from my worthless father while she was trying to raise my brother and me. She also could have used the type of help you seek.

yeah, agreed. I was lucky, I look after my brother on my own but I lived and went to school here so I already knew people. Even then I still find it pretty hard to meet people and socialise so a group or something would be good

There was a very act ive single parent group in Wick when i was bringing up my childrenand it was very good to chat with other single parents, who were single or divorced and good for the kids too. They had meetings and outings. Why not start a group yourself? Maybe the family centre would help and allow you use their premises. You could then arrangle nights out for the parents too. Good luck. This is much needed in Caithness.

Sorry i never thought to ask the age of your children.

But yes if you were to start up a group the family centre would help in any way it can. We have the facilities as we run groups for children 2- 12 years and could help as far as pointing you in the right direction for funding etc. Please get in touch if we can help in any way. Best of luck

I think a group like this would be a very good idea in the town. There is not enough around for young kids or single parents and it is definitely not easy on your own. My wee boy is 3 so he does not fit into the toddler group which is a shame as would have been nice to join a group like that. If you decide to start one, keep us updated on the org please.

The family centre is down on bank row, a little further down from the heritage centre

Clarabel there are a few mums who will be bringing along children who attend playgroup or nursery in an afternoon so you are more than welcome to come along and join in. The group will be run by parents ( in regards to activites, fundraising and purchasing) with support from the playgroup. So prehaps we could put this idea forward to the parents attending and see what we can come up with?

Oh right, that sounds good then. I thought it was just for parents and younger children. My little boy attends playgroup from 9.30 until 12 though so not really the best time for us but thankyou for letting me know though and wish the best of luck with the group :)

We are down opposite wick heritage centre on bank row,

If you were coming into wick down past the hospital it would be the fourth turning at the round about before you cross the bridge ( down the side of mackays hotel ) past headlines hairdressers and it's just tucked back on your left hand side.
