I thought that in the speed league table, the UK is ranked 27th out of 201 countries, with an average speed of 3.8Mbps.?

But then: "Asia dominates the list of fastest wired cities with more than half of the top 100 cities in Japan. Only 12 US cities make the list. All the top twenty cites were in either Japan or South Korea, with the exception of Umea, in Sweden, which was ranked 18th.Other European cities in the top 100 included Baden-Baden in Germany, Wageningen in the Netherlands and Timisoara in Romania. No UK city made it into the top 100.

Most "unlimited" download deals, especially at that price, have to meet a "fair usage" limit of something like 10Gb a month, nowhere near the 250Gb the original poster was talking about.

Also, I think the difference in speed was the main issue here.

With our aging infrastructure I think it will be an awfully long time before we will see the speeds considered "normal" in Asia.

I regularly exceed 200Gb usage a month, and i've never had any problems resulting from a fair usage policy, and my speed is more or less pretty constant at 6 meg regardless of the time of day. It will on occasion drop to around 3.5/4meg at peak times, but that doesn't tend to happen very often.

I'm with AAISP, in my opinion there is no better supplier. Plus I value my IPv6 connectivity (practically no other supplier offers it) and it's a rare thing to talk to someone who doesn't read a script and not having to dumb myself down when talking to them. Also most unlimited suppliers traffic shape everything.

That 27th league table thing is about a year old at this point also. Coming 27th is kind of low in my opinion also considering Britain is supposed to be a modern developed/first world country.

The Post Office. Their customer service was an absolute nightmare to deal with when i first signed up with them, i had all sort of problems setting up the account and was given incorrect information relating to the account nearly every time i had to call them. But eventually i got it all sorted out, and aside from when everyone's internet went doolally last month, i've not had to call them again.

Let's not bother comparing Broadband services with an Asian country. Their telecoms infrastructure is very different from ours. Most of the UK is still using BT landlines that were laid by Alexander Graham Bell and his pals a long time ago.

Nope, i subscribe to Blockbuster Online for all my movies, i didn't spend good money on a large screen Tv and Blu-Ray Home Cinema System to watch crappy quality pirated movies.

Yeah that was pretty much my point, they can't even fix the Edinburgh node properly they patched it up and left it hobbling along for a couple of months. That and we tend to be ignored up here. I'm reasonably sure I have one of the best connections in the area and that's still crap - that speed test was particularly slow compared to the norm.

I notice the BT exchange in Thurso has a 'protective' scaffolding shield all around its base level. Seems they're taking this 'firebombing' threat pretty seriously. ;)
