Finding somewhere to rent!

I am moving to Thurso ( hopefully!) from Shetland with my daughter in late summer. We will both be students for one year, then working. Can anyone tell me other avenues to look for a place to rent. I have been scouring the property to rent pages on this forum regularly but constantly find the houses will not accept pets ( we have a couple of well behaved ones) or DSS ( we may be forced to claim for a short while before bursary kicks in). We are just looking for a basic house, don't mind if it's a bit run down. Where should we be looking?

I would suggest that if you do see an ad for a place (c.org or otherwise) that appeals, and it states no pets, best to contact the owner or agent anyway: you never know, they may agree to whatever you want or agree to, or there may be compromises to be made.....

I've rented out homes in the past (and recently too), and would consider all requests for tenancy, whether it met my original requirements. You might find that with some sweet talking (you are obviously female, so should be adept at this...), you might get what you want, despite your original thoughts.
