Hi, I am not much of a flyer but decided to join the Air Discount Scheme with a view to flying to Glasgow to stay with some friends. I couldn't seem to get any discount at all on flights to Glasgow and tried Edinburgh instead. Discount flights WERE available to Edinburgh but from a quote of £570 the discount only took the price down to £520, not really approaching the trumpeted 40% that seemed so encouraging. In fact when you get down to it, there is only really a BA hair's difference ;o)

Looks like it will be the old Danny McGrain to Glesga for us. I wonder if others have had a better experience or if this is a bit of a white elephant scheme?

Which route were you trying Scorrie? £570 is a ridiculous amount! As far as I know, the only destinations from Wick are Orkney, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The thing about the 40% is that it's deducted before any taxes are applied, so it'll never be as much as that.

The discount works only on the flight price itself, you still pay all the other 'charges' like airport tax etc at full rate. Discount is not on everything therefore. What I'm not sure of is whether when flying outwith the scheme area - whether the whole flight cost is discounted or only a percentage to cover distance flown within the discount area.

Do you still have to use the travel agent to get the discount, or can you get it direct? I was on the British Airways site, but couldn't see anyplace I could apply the discount. Didn't want to pay the full price, but would have been happy with 40%

I've used Travel Agent - easier seemingly cos there seemed to be a load of 'paperwork' ror someone else to do. Also, T Agent took Card and may have swiped it - I couldn't see as I was looking at other brochures. Seems to me easier thru T Agent. Also, all the systems weren't running properly at the time - maybe a bit more than a month ago now.

Can't understand why you've been quoted a ridiculous price like that? I have recently booked a return flight (Wick/Edinburgh) for September which cost me £115 with my discount card.

Sorry, that was a price for the family, three adults and one kid!!

My worry was how little difference there was between the price with the cards and the price without. My wife and I have one card each and the kids then go on our cards. If others are making good savings then that is encouraging. The flights I was booking were direct from Wick to Edinburgh and the one to Glasgow went via Kirkwall. The site offers some really bizarre ways of of getting to your destination!! Michael Palin would be proud of some of them.

Thanks for all replies. Much appreciated.
