last night whilst trundling along on my bus on the way to wick at about 6 pm i was greeted by the wonderful sight of the full moon reflecting on loch Watten and in my rear view to see the red glow in the sky from the setting sun. i thought to myself what a wonderful world: :Razz

'Twas a beautiful evening, with clear sky and lots of stars visible. Lovely end to a surprisingly nice day.

"The colours of the rainbow/So pretty in the sky/Are also on the faces/Of children passing by....."

Some doggerel inspired by this thread, with a Brief Eulogy of Caithness.

Caithness she is beautiful
Of that there is no doubt
But lyrics from Old Satchmo
Will always gross me out.

He sings of rainbow colours
Upon the childrens' faces
We know those seven colours
And worry for their cases

The red has scarlet fever
The yellow jaundiced hue
The orange - too much tanning
The green, sea-sickness true

For blue, cold hypothermia
And indigo, a drowning
Dark violet, plague bubonic
(These words are clearly clowning!)

But lyricists - oh please take note!
Far worse can cause dismay
For someone wrote of singing larks
Trying to learn to pray:

I see them blindly flying
Their wings, folded in prayer
Then plummeting hard downwards
A death too much to bear!

Please, writer, take more trouble
Your words to fit in song
The tune may be hypnotic
But lyrics do go wrong!
