Today, I walked along the cliffs at the bottom of our field here in Brough, and noticed pairs of Fulmars in great numbers, far more than I have seen over the last 10 years.

We were surprised to see so many there a couple of weeks back, already squabling about their nesting ledges. They seem to be a few weeks ahead of where they should be, went on to Duncansby and the story was repeated there, look forward to when they get down to serious breeding.

I first spotted Fulmars gathering around mid January at Sarclet and Lybster and the numbers have been growing day by day.
I suspect if we get some adverse weather they will be off. The cliffs were very quiet during late 2010 but now the Fulmars are back so is the wonderful sound of cliff top squawking and squabbling. Roll on the Spring.
