I've had a letter from Pan Jun, maybe a friend of Fred's. Apparently my dad pegged it in 2002 and was worth $9.3m.
The problem being father is looking rather well for someone who's been dead for 9 years, maybe he actually stays in Portgower :eek::eek:!!!!

Also if he was worth $9.3m I would have arranged an 'accident' long ago and taken the lot rather than split it with some dodgy banker form China.

I'm going to drop Pan an email and see how I get me dosh.

Sorry folks but Fred wrote to me some time ago and I have already claimed all the money as I am the only direct descendant. I'll take you all out for a coffee though just to show there are no hard feelings......

Well, Pan Jun's got back to me so I must be in line for me $$££millions.

Here's wot I wrote him:

Dear Mr Jun

Thank you so much for your letter, my sincere apologies in my delay in replying but I have been away recently.

I was shocked at hearing of my relatives untimely demise, it was certainly a surprise. I am obviously interested in claiming my inheritance before the authorities take the funds, if you would be so kind as to inform me how to proceed.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your efforts in tracking me down in this matter.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Many best regards.

Hugh J. A. Mongoose

And his reply:
Dear Hugh,

I must say that I have enormous respect for you considering the manner in which I have made contact with you. We never know when life is about to shower us with good fortune, however we spend so much time wishing that life does.

The uniqueness of your name has made it possible for us to come together and share some decent money I will state the very crucial issues here, I saw this great opportunity presenting itself when I noticed that there was no next of kin in the bio data form of John Mongoose. I then hired a private investigator to investigate and help me get contact details of anyone with the same last name with John and hoping would be one of good repute. He then came up with your name and that was how I contacted you.

In everything one does with another: there must be a meeting of minds. Without us both seeing and assessing the situation through the same lenses there cannot and will never be success or progress. So as we say in Chinese thoroughness is what is needed here.

I need for you to follow my every instruction and do exactly as I say. You must let me direct this project for us to have success. This is not negotiable. It is when there is no leadership and no meeting of minds that there are problems.

Everything is going to be done in sequence. I will imagine that the whole process should take about 2 weeks before the money will be in your account.

At this stage I have exclusive access to John's file. I will be instructing a solicitor in China to prepare all the documents in your name. This will then be put in John's file and presented to my bank. It will be approved and then authorization given to The Harbin Bank to make payment to you. Please this is very important and your total commitment is what is desired. I will be speaking to you only and when necessary as this is a precaution. Most communication will be done via this email address.

At this stage I am sure you have loads of questions you want to ask. We are going to take this matter on a step-by-step basis. However something that I must point out to you at this stage is that there is no wrong on your part. At the end of the day it is The Harbin Bank that will be contacting you to inform you that money has been left for you. You are not contacting the bank so you are doing absolutely nothing wrong or taking any risk. The only person who could have disputed this is long gone.

You must understand why there must be serious confidentiality about this whole process. The Harbin Bank is a specialist bank, which deals with high net worth individuals and giant corporations. I have my contact there to make sure that nothing goes wrong. As soon as Chiyu Bank has gone through all formalities, they will instruct The Harbin bank to make payments to you. This will be done through a Solicitor as certain verifications required by law have to be done.

Please you can reach me on my confidential tel/00 852-*********2, You can call me at anytime.

Kindly reconfirm the following, as I need as confirmation for my file.

FULL NAMES
ADDRESS
TELEPHONE AND FAX NUMBERS (CONFIDENTIAL)
OCCUPATION

My friend please let us be positive and show discretion as we both make one of the most fruitful steps of our lives.

I wait your response via this email.

OK, time for a bit of sport, I shall take him up on his offer.....

Let's see if Pan has a sense of humour, my alter ego Hugh Mongoose has written him again:

Dear Pan

My heartfelt thanks for your prompt response, it's good to see such efficiency from bankers in this day and age. Makes a damned change from this country, do you know how long I was on hold to Barclays for the other day, it's a disgrace I tell you.

You are quite right Pan, I have a mass of questions for you, I do hope you understand my queries and I do not intend to press upon your time too much as I know you must be a busy man. However I must ask about my uncle and his death, do you know how he passed away? I do hope he didn't suffer, well not too much anyway. My sister would like to know where he is interred, she is quite concerned he may be alone in his final resting place (these women do get all emotional about these things). I do trust he was cremated, he'd be spinning in his grave if not. He had a terrible fear of confined spaces, maybe you have his ashes?
If so would you kindly help us arrange for his repatriation?

He was a very proud man, military chap, fought in several conquests including Sevastopol and Goose Green. However I believe his only income was his army pension, how did he end up holding such a fortune, have you any idea? I know he was a terrific gambler but he always lost far more than he ever won, it ended his second marriage to Ermentrude having squandered her inheritance through poker and mahjong. On the subject of wives do you have any idea what happened to Mee Noh his fourth wife? Met her in Thailand I believe, quite an age difference but she was a hell of a strumpet from what he told me.

You'll be needing my contact details no doubt:
221b Gordon Terrace
Newington
City of Edinburgh
Edinburgh
EH16 5QH

If my wife answers the phone whatever you do don't tell her what is going on, she mustn't know, understand? Man to man now, keep this between ourselves. But I intend to leave her once I have this money, I am eligible for early retirement and this cash will make me a happy man in my retirement. She's more interested in that wretched WI than she has ever been in me, and if she ever had this sort of money she'd give it away to the damned cats protection league or some donkey sanctuary. Not a chance my friend, not a chance!
If she picks up the phone pretend to be from the takeaway or something, anything but don't tell her, OKAY?

Do I need to come to China to clear these funds? It would be difficult but possible if you need me too. I do travel occasionally on business however not normally that far, I could tell my wife that my company is looking to open a new office in China, yes, that would work.

When is a good time to call you my friend? I don't wish to disturb you at night, what is the time difference from the UK? What time is it now, it's 8.40 here, do you have an 8.40 there? And it is the weekend here, do you have weekends or is it work work work for you chaps, I bet it is, no idling about with you guys.

I look forward to hearing from you my friend.
Best, Hugh
