Guitar with Humbuckers

I have 3 guitars, all with single coils (Highway 1 Strat, Japanese Squier Strat and a Tele copy by Vintage).

I had a shot of my son's guitar last week. It is a Jackson Rhoads with twin humbuckers.

Suddenly I have the urge to get myself a guitar with humbuckers.

I can thicken up my single coils with my FX but I waste too much time faffing around. I want to get back to basics and just have my guitars plugged straight in to the amp.

I love the clips of the new Blacktop Tele but alas I don't think my playing justifies something in that price bracket.

Potential budget is £200 - £300.

May well go down the 2nd hand route but I wonder if buying a guitar on Ebay is too risky.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Ever thought of puting stacked humbuckers on one of your Strats? Hotrails are pretty good.
I've bought a number of guitars from Ebay and apart from one which arrived with a broken neck,
I've had no problems.
Epiphone Les Pauls and SG'S would come in at your budget and the pickups are easily upgraded.

You may find the routs in some of your guitars are big enough for humbuckers.

The Ibanez RG2EX1 with stock humbuckers is a decent geetar in budget , Tokai ES60 is a reasonable semi-acoustic with h/buckers or this Musicman Sub 1 HH (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Music-Man-Sub-1-HH-electric-guitar-/290525125854?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item43a4a59cde)a steal at £300 on ebay - USA made....mmm should I???:roll:

I am toying with the idea of fitting a humbucker in to one of my existing guitars. However I know nothing about electrics/soldering etc and would need someone to do it for me (I can set up a guitar quite well but that's as far as it goes). Add the total for a decent pickup and the cost of the work and then I may as well just buy a complete 2nd hand guitar.

Back to square one again.

Can't decide if I want a bonkers, pointy, metal guitar or something more sensible to bring out the "Malcolm Young" in me - I can't do lead, just big chords but I find it very therapeutic.

Still pondering my options.

Update

I have now got myself a 2nd hand Les Paul copy. A Vintage V100. A well made guitar although the pick ups are competent rather than spectacular.

Now to get down to some playing and see how it all comes together.

Time will tell whether or not I become a humbucker convert.
