Can any one tell me?

Was looking at some large scale OS maps today of Reay area and was intrigued to see the following.
Port Isauld at the east end of Sandside Bay where the Isauld burn reaches the beach and Port Mhor where the stream comes in on the west side next to the pedestrian access by the WCs.
What is the meaning of the word port in this connection as it obviously cannot refer to a conventional port, any one got the answer?

Could it be a gateway of some sort. In Old Scots 'port' is a gate or gateway.
