Check out the 1871 census on FREECEN for Olrig - ED6 Schedule 112. There is a Thomas Murray there enumerated as a visitor , aged 50, and occupation Free Church Minister at Midmar ( which is in Aberdeenshire) . I think he is your man ! In 1861 census, there is a Thomas Murray at Old Meldrum which would fit him as well, but I did not access the full census transcript.
