I'm hoping that my birthday in February is going to bring me a new camera.

I don't want a DSLR, but want something that offers plenty of versatility.

The essentials as far as I am concerned are:

At least 10x optical zoom
At least 8mp resolution
The ability to take a filter, an external flash and a tripod

Preferably using AA batteries

From all the research I have done so far the Fuji Finepix HS10 looks as though it will do all I want and at a reasonable price - around £250.

Has anyone used one of these cameras, or have any other recommendations that would do all I want.

I've had a couple of Fuji Finepix the last one I used along side my DSLR after upgrading, decent cameras that give worthy results and have good optical zoom.
I can't talk about the HS10 as never used one but I would certainly consider one based on previous experience of Finepix Cameras.

Hope this helps a little!
