Some more local knowledge would be nice (if there are any local amateur astronomers reading) as to where in the sky it will be etc. And also will there be cloud cover?

Direction - Look to the North West - Quite low to the horizon
Cloud Cover - Met Office does not look hopeful, but I'll be looking anyway.

OK so far it looks very much like any other bright moonlite night but we can see the earth's shadow starting to creep across the moon. Not too long now and the moon we are told should turn red ..... spooky.

Maybe the population of Portgower will be having a street party,;).

I saw it too. Lovely and it was the first one to happen on the Shortest Day for 400 years.

it was beautiful. My 11 year old was a bit overwhelmed when he found out it was once every 400 years.

Well the red moon didn't appear ..... more a sort of washed out pink-ish; then it got obscured by mist/cloud.

Mmmmmm..., I don't think I'll wait around for the next one to happen on the winter solstice .

400 years since the last one fell on the winter solstice and only the second of the common era. In fact the next total one we can see will be on the 15th june 2011.

Just think how much has happened in the last 456 years!!!
It must mean something - two astronomical events coinciding!!!! A good year to come, I think!
:D

It wasn't as red as I expected but I thought it was amazing to see. I was digging the car out of the snow at the same time so it was nice to see something like that which made the job (only slightly) less mundane!

I tried but they didn't come out well at all, my camera didn't seem to like it no matter what setting I used. Hopefully someone else had better luck than me!

It was never going to be very red because the pre dawn light making the sky too light.Had it been an hour or so earlier it would have been red.
