I am reseraching my family tree and would be grateful for any help your forum members could give.
I have a lot of information about the above gentleman but i have reached an impass on his grandfather.
according to a newspaper obituary from the John o groats alexander was a well respected farmerfrom Rangag. he died in 1945 and was married to the daughter john Macdonald who was also a farmer and it was this farm he took over. alexanders mother was a jessie or janet bruce who was married to peter sutherland of forse.
my main interest is in alexanders grandfather and uncle.
jessie's brother was my great grandfather and he was col sergent john bruce of 92nd gordan highlanders. he was born in 1850 in force. his father was alexander bruce. however it appears that john was brought up in his uncle james bruce's house in blackcroft latheron. what i am stuck on is john's father alexander. i would be grateful for any info anyone has about the above people. it appears that there a hundreds of bruces and sutherland in the caithnes area! please feel free to contact me on my email.

Best of luck Magstar. I can't help you directly because I am still trying to trace my gt, gt, gt grandparents from Berriedale John Sutherland and Margaret Bruce and yes the number of Bruces and Sutherlands doesn't help.

My gt, gt grandmother was Margaret Sutherland and her sister Merran or Marion Sutherland lived with her and her husband Alexander Fleming in Fanagmore, Sutherland until they all died.

Try this website though for starters.

Hallo Magster,

I think you will find several of your family buried in the Old Latheron Cemetery.
look up www.graven-images.org.uk (http://www.graven-images.org.uk) it's a most interesting site.

Good Luck,
