View Full Version : Plea to motorists

When driving home at the top of Newton Hill tonight in very wintry conditions, my friend saw what he thought was a hedgehog in the middle of the road. He stopped to put it to the side and discovered it was a small black kitten about 5/6 weeks old. It was very cold and obviously would not survive this weather conditions. Could any motorists going along that way be aware in case there are more kittens?
The wee mite has been taken in by them for the night and hopefully is big enough to take solids. It was very docile and quiet which may be due to the cold.

Crikey! Thank goodness they stopped! What a lucky little kitten! Kudos to your friend for stopping to help!

Errm any hedgehogs found out now will need the same amount of care.
They will only be out if they dont have enough fat stores to last them through the winter.
So they should be picked up too!

Hows the kitten doing?

It was my aunt and uncle who found the kitten. They have kept it overnight and it is a quiet little thing who is eating well, however it is in need of a really good home, We asked around the Newton area but nobody seems to have lost one so we reckon it must have been dumped.

We have the kitten at our house now as my aunt has a dog. We have a 10 year old cat named Murphy who is not chuffed at the new lodger but we will persevere for a couple of days to see if a good home can be found. The kitten is lovely, a bit wary which is to be expected. He is eating well and at the moment is curled up in a fleecy blanket at the radiator in a big cage.( to keep him safe from Murph!!) He is black with white tips to all the hair on his back. Have named him Alfie (which is fatal as we had no intentions of having any more pets )

alfie sounds lovely, and i think by the sounds of it he has made himself right at home, i also found a kitten about the same amount of weeks back in august, and he started of so scared and he hid for the 1st fortnight, but now he is the most loving cat you could ever get, well done to your aunt and uncle for taking him in at the start.

We were just going to look after him for a few days to see how our older cat settled down with him but he is part of the family now although Murphy will take a bit of convincing.

Oh so glad you are keeping the lovely Alfie!:D

I am sure Murphy will come around in time. I had the same problem with my wee cat Suzy when I adopted Molly the cat but now they are fine together and were lying really close to each other last night which was lovely to see.

A Feliway diffuser might help. I get mine from www.vetuk.co.uk (http://www.vetuk.co.uk)

Ha ha the huffing and puffing Murphy is really lovely!:D

I'm sure his nose is just a wee bit out of joint at the young arrival but sure they'll be best buds in time.

Alfie is now ruling the roost. He has had his first taste of roast chicken, had a mouse delivered to him by the huffing and puffing Murphy and has settled in like he has lived here forever. His xmas present is below the tree and his feet are firmly below the table. If he will sit still for long enough we will post some photos.

Alfie is doing great. He never stops and loves every toy and ball although this soft xmas pudding seems to be a favourite as he carries it in his mouth. He has been in the xmas tree a couple of times and loves knocking the baubles off!!
