Just drove back to Castletown from Halkirk and even at 20mph the car kept sliding off in whatever direction it chose.

Be safe everyone.

There has been a fair amount of snow since this afternoon and if it continues I think we may well see closed schools tomorrow.;) The roads here are treacherous.

Did go out and clear the path this morning and put down salt, sand and antifreeze mix which works up to -10 for four or five days. Also threw sand across the dangerous corner on the hill right outside our house. It was gritted last week, but won`t be done again without special request........then it snowed heavily a couple of times, so I wimped out of going to the shop and phoned to get stuff delivered from Frasers. A big thank you to them and a wee reminder that for a £1 delivery fee you can have everything you need delivered to your door.

It was last night.

Having said that, this is the worst car(renault laguna) I have ever owned for driving in the snow, more than 2 flakes and the ESP starts flashing at me like a nutter.

Much prefered the xantia.

Best car I ever had for driving in the snow has to be the old type box lada that I learned to drive in, no power steering, like driving a blooming tank, but boy it held the road lol.

supposedly the thinner the tyres the better. digs in rather than gliding on the surface.

Aye cos we all have spare cash just now to pay for them :~(

For the length of time they are on the vehicle they are not worth money I don't have, will just keep driving as safely as possible when I do have to go out.

I would agree with that. We have a Fiat Punto that goes very well in the snow, little wee tyres......................now hubbies Audi is a totally different matter  skitters all over the road [lol]

Quite a lot of snow blowing off the fields tonight down the A9....At the top of Latheron was particulatly bad when I came down it.
Really glad I am not in the Central belt though, being stuck on a Motorway is not my idea of fun..

Oh yes, Alice. Sometimes less is more.

OH has an old Jaguar which has heated everything, even the seats, front and rear screens, mirrors et al, the snow just slides off them. Traction control, everything you could wish for........................but in the really bad weather he prefers to use the "mountain goat"...............my twelve year old Escort Estate. If it doesn`t go in a forward gear it will get there in reverse! It uses a key for access, not electronics and I have a heated gadget on my keyring to heat the lock on frosty mornings, so no problem getting in to start the car.

We have had numerous rows (to screaming pitch) over the years when he has wanted me to upgrade the car for something more modern, but I am so glad I have stuck to my guns.

Its amazing just what suits what.

This year for the second year in a row we have a rear wheel drive car which is rubbish in snow. We have decided to get through the winter and my driving test and for next year our next car will be a four by four or four wheel drive vehicle for the winter ;)
God so much better than rear wheel drive! Reverse is better than going forward atm  Go too fast around a corner boy do you know it.

I find this very interesting to read that Frasers shop deliver as a few years ago my leg was in plaster and I was house bound, on phoning them asking if they would deliver some groceries to me the answer was NO.

It's horrible - that fine balance of going fast enough to maintain momentum in a straight line but going slow enough to be able to stop...

Having just upgraded to a 4WD beastie a week ago I totally agree - it's made light work of the snow and sticks like glue. With our snow spells becoming longer & more frequent I think more will be doing the same.
