Was/is it good from your professional perspective?

Absolutely, totally, 100% spot on.

Now you need to remember that I am Church of Scotland and Geraldine is Church of England, but the issues, the people, the situations and the hymns are all the same.

OK - now have you any more programmes - preferably from here (lol)

One of my favourites is "Coupling", which is currently being aired on BBC America. It's Britain's answer to "Friends", but even better, in my opinion! :D

My fave is probably The Young Ones because all the different characters in it means they all add something. I like the surreal and slapstick sides of it too.

The OfficeAm I the only person in the whole wide world who can't stand this programme? I change channels whenever Ricky Gervais appears on TV.

That gives me an idea for a new thread. Later...

Pretty much always at the top - Fawlty TowersPretty much for me too. In fact, I like everything that everyone's mentioned with the exception of The Office and Coupling (which I've never seen).

I guess that says it for me more or less. Certainly the last two I've no time for.

11-Aug-06, 15:53
Still Game
Open All Hours

I too can't stand Ricky Gervais - instant turn off - and I'm glad someone else thinks the same.
I always thought Faulty Towers a bit too stupid.
Quite enjoyed Coupling though.

Quite enjoyed Coupling though. This kind of sums up these topics for me. I enjoy all of those you mention whereas you like about 2 and a half. Some will like one or none. I quite like people's diversity :D

"one foot in the grave" - been that way so long forgot about it lolThat's one that grew on me quite slowly. I just didn't get it at first. Really like it now though. One thing that put me off early on was everyone going around saying his infamous catch phrase.

Kingetter
11-Aug-06, 18:50
Yup - catchphrases get to be a real pain after a while but we try to live with all sorts of other pains - why not that one?

Yup - catchphrases get to be a real pain after a while but we try to live with all sorts of other pains - why not that one?Don't get me wrong - it works very well when he says it in the show. What gets me is people going around reciting it (often badly) at random ;)

A memorable episode of Father Ted has Ted encountering Richard Wilson and he can't stop himself saying it to him and driving him mad. Wilson is recorded as saying this episode reflects his real life lol

Every Saturday night, on our equivalente of BBC 3 we had a programme called brit com. It gave very late ( just past midnight), but we used to stay up just to watch it. As the title indicates, it was british comedy: Allo', allo' I grew to love (Lizen to me carfooly for I shal zay zis only onze) and absolutely fabulous was great, along with the Vicar Dibley, Fawlty towers, Gimmy a man after midnight, etc, etc, etc...... they lost me, however, when they started the office...is it only me that couldn't stand it????

The memorable plays what little Ern wrote, breakfast set to the Stripper, Andrew Preview on the piano, a workman's boot on Shirley Bassey, Glenda Jackson as Cleopatra and so, so many more gems. How could they not be top of the list?

I like most of what's already been mentioned, with the exception of The Office and Red Dwarf. In fact, I preferred Chris Barrie of Red Dwarf in The Brittas Empire, which was a fave comedy series of mine.

The Vicar of Dibley was great as well. Dawn French was superb in that, and I also liked her in the earlier series, French and Saunders. Dawn and Jennifer's satirical skits and parodies were absolutely brilliant!

I also enjoy My Family, with Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker as the parents. :)
