Im in Wick but i can travel :) he is a well behaved boy. Im just feeling sorry for him never meeting another dog his size or getting a proper play with an equal sized dog

TBH at just 5months old you would probably be better off letting him play with a smaller dog than an adult Great Dane. My boy would just be too boisterous and they're not the softest of play dogs.
Huntly plays with the German Shepherds now and some of their 'play' even has me cringing.

Don't be too worried about your Dane playing with the bigger boys just yet. Give his bones a chance to grow in relative safety with a gentle dog regardless of size. Overly playful accidents at such a young age can cause physical injury on top of any psychological problems.

Socialisation would be the key for you. Get him out to met as many people and dogs as you can as Great Danes can have a tendency to become very wary very easily.
Don't worry about the size of dog you interact with, your little one won't, he'll just be happy to be with dogs.

Good Luck and enjoy!
Plus we want piccies and updates of how he's doing. :)

Hi,I agree totally with Porshiepoo, our Dane also 'plays' with our German Shepherd and boy are they rough, tumbling each other..and the noises...,if you didn't know them you'd think they were attacking each other (even though their tails are wagging madly) But he also plays with Jack Russells, he doesn't seem to notice the size of other dogs Most important is the socialising..as they really are cowardly giants.Nice to know theres another Dane up here, wonderful friends, enjoy him and look forward to bumping into you sometime.
P.S Welcome to the Org and Pets Corner

Cool, didn't know you have a Dane too & Shepherds. lol. I know alot of horsey people that have Danes, must be a size thing. lol.
What colour is yours?

The worst game they play with people has to be 'chicken', if you don't move......lol.

I had 5 of them when we moved up here 7 years ago but now just have the one.
I used to enjoy showing them and even got 2nd in class at Crufts with Bailey (my avatar) in fact my avatar piccie was taken on the way back.
Showing is not so easy from up here though. Not that I could show Huntly as he's a Merle but anyways....

Socialisation is definitely the key. Have to say i was a tad complacent with Huntly and while he's fabulous out and about he tends to bark and back off from men. (In fact every Dane I've owned has been like that except Bailey).
Doesn't matter how much I tell people to just ignore him they always seem to want to stare straight at him, even bend toward him and stare. Ruddy well annoys me!

Ha size thing! Yep big horses, big dogs...guilty as charged. 'Diesel' is a 3yr old harlequin mismark so another non show dog but he is really well socialised,he just loves attention. He's my second Dane,I lost my first when she was only 2,unknown cause,'Inka' was fawn with a beautiful black mask;I would never be without a Dane now, fabulous friends.

They do get under the skin. lol

Bailey was a Fawn too. I was devastated when he suddenly just died 2 days before his fifth birthday. Happily playing one minute then gone the next.
They leave a huge hole and I was determined never to get another - not gonna happen though is it. lol.
We got Huntly, from Huntly, just a year after Bailey died and I didn't realise till then just how depressed I'd been for that year, he really was like my shadow. In fact my neighbour once said that if anyone wanted to know where I was on the land they only had to look for Bailey. lol.

Do you happen to know what lines your girl came from?
2 years of age is not age to go is it, you've barely had any time together. All Dane owners understand that they can be a short lived breed but we still hope to get a good 8 years or more from them.

I have a good feeling about Huntly. His lines are partly imported German I think so I'm hoping there's less chance of some of the defects I'm aware of in the British lines.

Oh,can't think,we're sitting here trying to remember...but 'Inka' ate her pedigree papers when she was a tearaway puppy... ..she was a demon puppy whereas 'Diesel' only ever chewed one item..a boot..unfortunately a very expensive riding boot, which he turned into a sandal!! I must have the replacement papers somewhere though, will have to have a look for them as its annoying me that I've forgotten.

Ah, the old Basheet. lol.
Wouldn't worry about them too much when your Dane is playing. My friend breeds them and never before have I met such a tenacious breed. lol. Stumpy legs or not, they are extremely er what's the word......resilient!
The same friend also breeds Irish Wolfhounds so I know for a fact that they can handle the larger breed. lol.

Oh my word, I've just looked on said webiste. He's adoooooooorabubble. lol.
That look is so typical of a Dane.

What I want to know is who owns that gorgeous Brindle boy? Obviously a show person, deduced from the fact that he's been stacked in a show position.lol. Lovely boy!
