It was a good start for both Caithness sides on the opening day of The MSIS North Caledonian League Championship with Halkirk United posting a 2-0 win away to Balintore at Seaboard Park and Thurso winning 6-0 away to Tain with goals from Mark Nicholl (2), Jamie MacKenzie, Luke Cassidy, Alan Murray and Gavin Bremner.
Champions Golspie Sutherland opened their defence of the title with a 1-0 home win against Alness United and Bonar Bridge shocked Invergordon 2-1 in Invergordon.

Next week's fixtures sees Tain St.Duthus attempt to pick themselves up from disapointing 6-0 opening day defeats when they meet Bunillidh Thistle at home. Both Caithness sides are looking to build on their impressive opening result with very tough fixtures as Thurso face another trip south when they face Bonar Bridge away and Halkirk United entertain Alness United at Recreation Park. Finally Balintore also hope to pick themselves up from a disapointing home defeat againast Halkirk United when they entertain Dornoch at Seaboard Park.
