This day in 2003 was declared the hottest day in Britain after a temperature of 38.1C (100.6F) was recorded in Gravesend, Kent. Thousands flocked to the coast to bask in the sunshine. But with the heat also came danger. More than 20 people were struck by lightning and rail-speed restrictions were introduced.

certainly looks like it for a while at least :(
had a look through the forecast charts last night, and even though it is classed as being way off in 'fantasy island' we may get a second shot at summer around the 25th august ;) (i'll know more when it is in a reliable time frame ie 5 days).
