Highland Councillors have rejected the planning application for 13 turbines. But the applicants can appeal and if they do, what should the Scottish Government do in these times of financial constraint?

What they always do. Overturn the planning commitee and allow yet another pointless blight to be imposed on the teuchters. ;)

how about hanging their heads in shame at trying to turn Scotland into an eyesore and make the landowners millionaires ?

Not necessarily. Quite a few wind turbine applications in Orkney have been refused permission by planning, and the appeal has also upheld the decision.

We will see what happens.. Looks like SSE will - as per usual, not accept democracy and run squealing to the Scottish Reporter, who although our Council has refused it - could quite easily turn Democracy on it's arse and pass it.. don't forget the numpties who are in charge down there, simply love inefficient wind power and refuse terrible scary Nuclear..

Well I'm ashamed to say I voted for 'em last election (sorry!) seems to me that although Labour were rubbish at least they don't have the prehistoric fear of the dark ref Nuclear and will change that stupid policy - take a look at France.
No doubt I'll feel bad about voting for the Socialists, but at least it won't be SNP who don't give a toss about us up here..

Nuclear Power? yes please.. Exclusive: leading greens join forces in a major U-turn
Britain must embrace nuclear power if it is to meet its commitments on climate change, four of the country’s leading environmentalists – who spent much of their lives opposing atomic energy – warn today

The one-time opponents of nuclear power, who include Stephen Tindale the former head of Greenpeace, have told The Independent that they have now changed their minds over atomic energy because of the urgent need to curb emissions of carbon dioxide.
The four leading environmentalists who are now lobbying in favour of nuclear power are Lord Chris Smith of Finsbury, the chairman of the Environment Agency; Mark Lynas, author of the Royal Society’s science book of the year, and Chris Goodall, a Green Party activist and prospective parliamentary candidate.

There's always a need for power and there is always a lack of support for any methods of creating electrical energy. People need to accept the eyesore that is to become of the planet or stop using energy.

Doesn't look like either will happen - utopian society is what we need.

If you rely on windpower you can have both the eyesore and the automatic ability to stop using energy, but not when you choose to do it.

The Council could make a start in their own offices. I went in the other day, and all the staff in the Market Square office have a winter uniform that comprises a short-sleeved thin top and a little waistcoat. The heat was almost unbearable, Turn it down by 5 degrees, and issue a jumper perhaps.
The greatest user of fossil fuels is domestic and commercial heating, and it is universally overdone - wrecking health as well as the planet. If the council has to make cuts, better do it that way, and maybe even save one or two jobs in the process.

There is never a full report of what is said at these meetings, the reports which are eventually published record the gist of the meeting and decisions, but not verbatim.
