Hi There, was wondering if anyone could help me.
I got an e-mail sent to me saying that I was going to be getting £26.90 debited from my paypal account for fees /charges. I am a bit confused as to why. I did sell a piece of jewellery for someone and it was a buy it now offer and it went for £250.00. Is it a comission thing. Not sure, and can't seem to find out what it's for very easily. Has anyone else had this? I know that you have to pay for uploading pics for the item but not too sure on what these charges are for.

yep it will be £25.00 for the 10% commission + £1.90 for the insertion fee, then you will have the cut from paypal too if you chose that as payment method - hope you didn't give your friend the complete £250 as you'll be ~£30 out of pocket

There aren't many places online where you can sell stuff for free; ebay's fees are high; plus the paypal fees as well - can really eat into your margins. On the plus side, though, the eBay marketing and the number of active eBay buyers and sellers puts your products in front of a huge audience and gives you much better sales potential.

On eBay's site, you can find out how to be a Trading Assistant which is effectively what you did for your friend. Some people do earn a living working like this; my view is that it's not easy money - and you have to know your costs and then charge an additional fee to cover your time and other expenses.
