Beautiful set of images MPH, what sort of exposure did you use to get such definition?

Beautiful set of images MPH, what sort of exposure did you use to get such definition?

Anything from 2 seconds up to 9 seconds.I never actually timed any of them.Just opened the shutter with the remote and waited for a rocket to explode,as soon as it did i would stop the exposure. When there was a lot of white light i wouldnt open the shutter for too long and obviously if they werent too bright you can leave the shutter open longer. All down to a bit of luck really.
Keep the ISO settings low as well, 100-200.

I got a few weird effects with water on the lens where it had gone a bit streaky where i had wiped it.
Particularly noticable on #2 & #3.

Both of your photo's are amazing.

Next year I'm going to take a tripod and leave my toddler with someone else I think!

That was a really good technique MPH.

This was a 4 second exposure, It was my first attempt at fireworks so I guess I'm happy enough with the result, hopefully next year I will learn from my mistakes.

MPH, I see you suffered from water on your lens. (and as predicted from last year it rained quite heavily for a period!!). My lesson from last year was to take a big umbrella and have it stand over the camera (while everyone else got wet ;-)) Like you I used bulb and randomly fired off different exposures as and when the display proceeded. Great stuff.

Yes,i gave the lens a wipe but there were obviously some streaks left. The hood of the 17-40 L is like having an ashtray on a motorbike. It gave some an "interesting" effect.
I'll have to dig out the old Ping brolley from my golfing days.

I posted a link on the first post to a slideshow, you can see the ones that have gone skewiff.
