Her Only Son
by Caithness Violinist
( appeared in the Caithness Courier Remembrance Day 1950.)
She wont forget, that mother there,
With tear stained face and silvered hair,
He was her boy, whose name's carved there,
She wont forget.
She needs no hallowed shrine or cairn,
To make her mother's heart to yearn,
He was her son, her darling bairn,
She wont forget.
She wont forget until she dies,
Her laddie with the dark blue eyes,
That sleeps at peace 'neath foreign skies,
She'll ne'er forget.
