I am searching for suitable piece of music synonymous with the North Coast,
for my website, ideally something that everyone in the area recognises as being of Caithness or Sutherland,
Anyone got any ideas?

how about one of john horne's poems?

"A Guide to Travellers"

If you have got the tramper's boast,
And up to Northern part you post,
When you perceive a rocky coast
You may surmise it's Caithness.

If you see flagstones (set on end)
By ditch and field their forms extend;
And should the trees to landward bend,
You may infer it's Caithness.

If from their cots the natives creep,
And bid you welcome warm and deep,
Yet eye you with a quizzing peep,
You may conclude it's Caithness.

And should they ask your parentage,
Your name, your business, hours and wage,
And what you've saved and what's your age,
You may be sure it's Caithness!

or how about one of jim begg poems?

Keiss Partans

The wind is blowan frae the East
It’s been here now a month at least
A’m thinkan o’ ma favourite feast
A good Keiss partan
Now if you don’t know any better
An’ wonderan “What’s this Partan craitur?”
The richt name’s a ‘Crab’ – it doesna maitter
We ca’ them Partans

Well in Summer when it’s heit
A Salad’s very good ‘till eit
There’s one thing that ye canna beit
A good Keiss Partan.
In Winter when the cold wind blows
An’ frost is nippan’ at yer toes
Ye still can take a richt good dose
O’ fine Keiss Partans.

‘A steak id better’ some fowks boast
There’s some prefer a lump o’ roast
There’s ithers sit an’ nibble toast
Gie me a Partan.
Ye wouldna hev to think ower hard
If the Pudding Chieftain wis debarred
These words ye’d hear from our National Bard
Gie me a Partan.

Heres a crackin song:-

OVER THE ORD

(Chorus) NOW COME ALL YE PEOPLE, COME OVER THE ORD
THERE'S A WELCOME AWAITING THAT YOU CAN AFFORD
BE YE A PAUPER OR BE YE A LORD
YOU WILL ALWAYS BE WELCOME IN CAITHNESS

THERE ARE LOCHIES AND BURNIES, BROCHANS AND BRAES
QUAINT LITTLE HAMLETS AND HAVENS AND BAYS
ALL PLACES YOU'LL CHERISH THE REST OF YOUR DAYS
WITH A WARM HEARTED WELCOME IN CAITHNESS

FROM THE MOUNTAINS OF MORVEN THERE CAN BE SEEN
MOORLANDS AND MEADOWS AND RIVERS AND STREAMS
OF ALL THE FINE PLACES THAT I'VE EVER BEEN
THERE IS NO FINER COUNTY THAN CAITHNESS

FOR THE LAND THERE BELOW, THE PLACE OF MY BIRTH
IS CARRESSED BY THE WAVES OF THE WILD PENTLAND FIRTH
OF ALL THE FINE PLACES THAT I'VE EVER SEEN
THERE IN NO FINER COUNTY THAN CAITHNESS

Shoals of Herring would be really good but they sing about Yarmouth harbour and not about the Silver Darlings that were caught up here.

John Horne died 1934, copyright will be no issue, its usually 70 years after the author's death.
