Ain't he a cutie, sorry got this from a "News" Forum and I'm unsure as to how to post the whole thing !!
Isn't he gorgeous awwwwwww :D
Mum and Dad used to have one that visited their garden.
Tarn (springer spaniel) used to fetch him up to the house, then he would get fed and would wander off until he was squished on the road!
until he was squished on the road!
As usual; you have such a lovely way with words Dadie.........
Well there is not many words that describe a hedgehog pancake on the road.........
But he was a friendly wee thing and didnt even curl up in a ball when carried by Tarn.
Would let you stroke him as long as the food was forthcoming otherwise he would wander off.
As usual; you have such a lovely way with words Dadie.........
totally agree, it started of to be such a nice story aswell.
He didnt have any fear which might have lead to his downfall....
And he was lucky to survive as long as he did because his colouring (or lack of) made him an easy target for predatators...
They usually end up in animal shelters because their survival rate is pretty dismal in the wild...
Oh Dadie you are a right little ray of sunshine!
The albino hedgehog is beautiful. We had two hedgehogs who came to visit our garden regularly but, typically, when we bought special hedgehog food they stopped coming!
Dont get me wrong he was lovely ...
Just a bit of a fleabag:lol:
Nothing we could do about that!
I was suprised he lasted as long as he did....
He was there for 2 years running....
I used to wait up for him to feed him..
I wonder what the lifespan of a hedgehog is? Before anything happens to them that is.
They are really beautiful wee creatures.
I dont know you can get fancy ones as pets now that live for 10 years plus...but in the wild I dont know!
Reckon 8 years would be good...
Got this info on the internet:-
Hedgehogs have a relatively long lifespan for their size. Larger species of hedgehogs live 4–7 years in the wild (some have been recorded up to 16 years), and smaller species live 2–4 years (4–7 in captivity (http://forum.caithness.org/wiki/Captivity_(animal))), compared to a mouse (http://forum.caithness.org/wiki/Mouse) at 2 years and a large rat (http://forum.caithness.org/wiki/Rat) at 3–5 years. Lack of predators and controlled diet contribute to a longer lifespan in captivity (8–10 years depending on size).
So you're not far off Dadie!
Thought he had a short life...but not that short as hedgehogs go really by your info!
Missed him for a whole week which was unusual..then when out for a walk found him (couldnt mistake his colouring) you know flattened..
Very cute :D never seen an albino one before..!!
