It was taken just before the sun set behind Scrabster,i think the low light makes them even brighter,certainly the area inside the rainbow was particularly bright.Thats because the water droplets inside the rainbow reflect the light back at you and outside the Rainbow it doesnt,the start of the dark area is called Alexanders Dark Band....apparently.

That's the dark bit between the two when you have two rainbows. It's weird....

Not sure,i think its just the dark area on the outside of a rainbow,its quite noticable even with a partial rainbow.

it could have been,i did make my way towards the harbour to get a shot of the left arc of the rainbow behind the castle but by the time i got there it had all but vanished.
