What's the best free virus protection? and another question, I just bought a notebook and got two cds with it. there's nowhere to insert the cds though. All i need is word and if I download a program i have to pay for it, but I've already got and paid for software for my main computer and don't want to pay again, but as I say, if there's nowhere to insert the cds, what do I do?

AVG always seems to get a good report, I used to use it years ago:

AVG Free (http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage)

I've used ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-gb/zonealarm-antivirus-software.htm) now for a good few years, I pay for the program and the uploads. I think £40 PA for full package on 3 machines but the AV starts at £17.50.

Whatever you get always ensure you get the uploads at least weekly, preferably daily, and scan minimum weekly pref' daily otherwise it's a waste of time.

AVG free is the one I use. It was recommended to me by an IT company I used to work for.

As for the CD's, you can buy an external DVD re-writer, which I did when I wanted to load Word etc to my notebook.

Also try looking at Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/) it's a free office suite similar to MS Office.
Different layout and interface but does the same stuff pretty much for basic word processing etc.

It's free and looks free, but it does the job.

Microsoft Security Essentials is also free and very good. I find AVG can be slow on some pcs.
