Well I am pleased to announce that I have taken on a new pony - Babycham who has been advertised on loan here. She's a lovely, lovely little horse and I'm really enjoying having her here already - thanks Tumbledown :)

Here is her just arriving - a big thankyou to Kathy@watten for her time and the loan of her lorry.

I've been a completely mean new loaner and started her working straight away... Nothing strenuous, just 5-10 min so far for each session.

Here she is with a roller on, ready for a walk down the lane to see how she would react.

A little bit of inhand grazing as she's stabled for a week while she's being wormed.

And a picture of her pretty little self.

Today I lunged her for the first time and she's a funny little thing. She lunges square - walks in a straight line until at the end of the rope then turns and carries on. To help her get the idea I passed the lunge line through the bit and attached it to the D-ring on the opposite side of the saddle, figuring this would help her bend. Hey presto - circles!

She does seem to lack a bit of impulsion on the lunge so after the session I tried the 'Pessoa' on her. She didn't bat an eyelid so I'm going to put it on her again this afternoon and take her for a little walk (couldn't earlier as Watten field is full of horses and lorries and I didn't want to blow her mind lol)

Here she is with the Pessoa on - it's not the real deal but it does the job. On nice and loose as I don't want the pully system to be activated, just fleece behind her bum...

She is lovely!

I've not done anything with her since the day I tried the pessoa on as the weather has been so blustery - don't really want to set her up to fail. But then the way things are going I might have to... I've taken a week of work to work with her (was sooo excited) and it's rained the whole time so far :(

So yet the pap weather is my fault

Well as we have had the first day of nice weather in a week I decided to bite the bullet and lunge her. I put the Pessoa on her but just loosely so she could get used to the feel of it.

At first she was none too keen

Still gobby and hollow on the other rein

She started to loosen up and get the idea of it so we swapped back

And then finally she stopped hollowing, lifted her back, started using herself properly and we got this

I'm quite pleased with her - considering she's just getting back into it :)

Thanks TW.

I lunged her again today with the Pessoa but with a saddle on. Once she started looking like she was lifting her back and carrying herself I took the Pessoa off and hopped on.

She didn't react at all or show any cold backed signs :)

So I rode a circle of the drive on both rein and put her back in the stable for some well deserved tea :)

She is also out with my mare now - Sundae followed her around for about 10 minutes (looking for a fuss) then carried on grazing. They seem unbothered by each other but are grazing within 6 feet of each other, bless :)

Yeah, was a bit naughty of me really - I hadn't planned on actually having a sit until she is a bit better muscled... I didn't put any pressure on her though so we'll go back to the lunging for a few more days and then try again next weekend :)

Im curious Leanne (...or Incognito), since Im new to the art of lunging and still learning - have you got the lunge rein attached through the bit and attached to the roller on the other side. Thats what it looks like in the photo but Ive never seen it done that way?

If you attach it like that it stops the head being pulled into the inside and the hind end disengaging. It effectively encourages inside bend...

Yeah she's doing fine - she's just had a week off as I was on a course in deepest darkest Englandshire but was spoiled rotten by my other half. I've come back to a very muddy palamino though who has suddenly discovered the joys of rolling in thick mud :(
