outlook express in nowt to do with surfing the net.

you mean internet explorer

it is quite probablr that the music download and the way tey were leeched from the net has everything to do with esp if it was a torrent site.

you need to do a full scan for trojans

run this:

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/center/howsafe.htm?s_cid=mscom_msrt

hit the protection scan button

then follow the prompts and watch for the yellow bar at the top asking you to authorise the activex contect, click in the yellow bar and away you go.

Hi, I have clicked on the link but it is telling me that 'This version of the windows live onecare safety scanner doesn't work with my web browser or operating system.' It is vista that I have and even if i click on the 'download vista version of the scanner' it is giving me the same answer - anything else I can do?

Try to download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/ . If you can install and run it, let it fix anything that it finds. If you can't download and/or install it, download it to a USB stick from another computer, and try to install it from that.

nb. First, try to remove the program that your son installed; I presume that it is Bearshare.
