You need to get this checked as soon as possible.

If it is dry rot it can cause major problems. Other moulds etc need to be treated as soon as possible to stop more damage. Cost depends on the extent.

See

There are firms locally to contact

Mould is generally caused by dampness, either getting into the house i.e. rising damp or by poor ventilation and water vapour not getting out.

Often it is quite simple to cure but it depends on how long it has been there and what other damage further rot and fungus has done.

Simple rule of thumb, if it's low down then suggest rising damp, check the DPC and sub floor vents etc.

High up is either a leak of some description or ventilation. Check roof, clear gutters and check for leaking downpipes. If it's bathroom or kitchen then it'll most probably be a ventilation issue.

Once you get the source of the problem sorted, a wipe with Jeyes fluid will kill off the mould.
