Interesting times ahead for the humble (and tasty) mackerel

Hands off our mackerel!!! Got enough of our cash haven't they?

Mackerel..........mmmmmmm

Take a whole mackerel, gutted but head on.
Make small slits down the side and slide slices of garlic into them.
Paint outside of fish with oil or butter.

Grill on tinfoil until the eye turns white.

Turn it over and do same on other side until eye turns white.

Cooked to perfection! Delicious! Eat with new bread and butter- wash down with Pinot Grigio chilled.

Not for Icelanders!!! [evil]

Excellent crab food, also the Spur dog`s favourite dish.

I like a bit of mackerel once or twice a year but I rather using it for bait for the Lobsters or Crabs , give me haddock any day

Did you know that out of all the London underground station signs, the only one which doesnt contain any of the letters of the word Mackerel is St Johns Wood. Unless theyve built one in the last few years.

If you worked that out for yourself, you must have an awful lot of time on your hands!

I like a bit of smoked mackerel when I am on the Scottish side of the pond. Unsmoked, there's nothing to beat a haddock, though the late Norman Buchan MP opined that there is no greater fish than a North Sea herring, caught by a steam drifter.

Nah, it was in a quiz a few years back. It makes you wonder though doesnt it, who thought of the question in the first place and why?

just as bad as the Icelander and Faeroese fishermen, I was there at the 1960 Cod War, our fishermen/government lost that one, now look at the Cod Stocks in the North Atlantic, fished out.

I wonder how much Black Fish was landed at Scrabster?

Aye & the Opprtune had their biggest ever grossing last week of Cod , so Im afraid to tell you there are Cod in the sea . Its just that most boats(the handful that are left) arent allowed to catch them whenever they fancy it.

There were thousands of boxes of illegal fish landed in Wick , Scrabster KLB & Lochinver Kirkwall & Pierowall in the 80`s & 90`s , It isnt possible to do it now though as the police & SFPA will get you in the end
