Just been checking my phone bill on line and see I have been charged on several occasions for calling an 0871 number or should I say 2 different 0871 nos. I never phone these numbers and neither does my OH. Not a vast amount but £4 is better in my pocket than anyone elses. We do get a lot of cold calls and don't always answer them as we find they are usually computer generated has anyone else had this problem? I also wonder if there is any way the caller can transfer the charges to me? Any ideas would be helpful. I have e mailed plus net a sthat is who we have our phone and broadband with.

If you have been charged for phoning a 0871 number then as far as I know this can only happen if someone has actually phoned it. I would phone the number to see what company they are and then this might help you to see who phoned them.

I would also suggest that before you make a 0870 or 0871 Number check out the Say No to 0870 Web Page at :-

A Lot of these numbers have alternative numbers and sometimes they can be 0800 Freephone numbers. It is worth looking up and can save you some money.

go to www.whocallsme.com (http://www.whocallsme.com) and enter the full number there. You may be surprised.

I always use the link Kodiak suggests for any number which isn`t 0800, 01,02 or 03 which are all free to me 24/7 from my broadband provider.

However, was anyone in your house recently who may have used the phone to call their office perhaps? Sky are naughty about this sometimes and I have had refunds twice from them for making calls to premium rate numbers to their office by their engineers at my expense.

Obviously if you phone them again yourself you will have to pay again, but use Kodiak`s link and try to find out which companies the numbers belong to, and take it from there. Good luck.
