Apparently we're in with a pretty good chance of seeing the northern lights on the horizon on Wednesday and Thursday nights:

- if it gets dark enough and there's no cloud...

They were out early Sunday morning and there was plenty of clouds in the sky. Shudder to think what they would have been like with no clouds.

There should be plenty of oppertunities this autumn/winter so wouldnt worry about missing this one if its cloudy.

Still on the astro subject, the first major meteor shower of the year, the "persieds", takes place on the night of August 12th/13th.

Latest update predicts a KP index of 5-6, which is almost classed as a storm so if thats correct then the aurora could reach as high as 45 degrees above the horizon. These things are very unpredictable though.
