We have just moved to Thurso with our 17 year old son, any ideas as to how we can help him to make some new friends? He is starting at college at the end of August so that should help but any other suggestions would be very appreciated

I'd say college is his best bet,im not from thurso so not sure what goes on for him to socialise and make friends.

A good way to make new friends is to join a club. There are some clubs listed here (http://www.caithness.org/community/clubs/), but I'm sure there are many others. :)

If he likes watching football, tell him to get to Wick Academy when the season starts.

Welcome to Caithness! :Razz

College should give a great opportunity for your lad to make friends.

There are plenty of football and badminton clubs up here if he's into sport too.

Lots of people like to surf here, so he could look into trying that perhaps - enquire at the surf shop down at the harbour as they will know who to talk to about lessons maybe. :D

Looks like you have some suggestions on here. The good thing for him is he is starting college in less than a month. Give him a chance and I'm certain he will find his own way around until then.

Thanks, he loves football and might be up for surfing so will encourage him to give those a go
guess it will take time for us all to settle!

If he likes playing football, there are plenty of clubs up here that he could train with to get a kickabout.

The summer 11 a side leagues are just about finishing but there is a 7 a side league in the winter which usually starts around September time.
