Well Done All another good night. Shame there were not as many floats sign of the times I suppose, nevermind still think there really is nothing quite like it in the County. Hope the retiring Gala Queens Float makes a return next year not the same without it. Once again Well Done to all who took part to make it a special night.

all the floats were brilliant. What a pity there were so few. A couple of years ago Icounted 23, tonight there were about 9 I think. why is that?

I suspect its to do with the current climate. To put out a float can be costly and not to mention time consuming as with most things its the certain few that do all the work.

Perhaps incomers into the area don't know how to go about putting on a float? ie When entries need to be in; topics, and where to source costume etc?

Maybe there were less floats, but boy, they were TERRRRRIFIC....well done everyone, what a credit to Caithness. The 'walkers' with their tins were fabulous and would you believe, I even spied Elvis himself...how good was that!!!!!
Great atmosphere, sights and sounds and I will sum it up in one simple word. FANTASMAGLORIOUS................:D

Possibly something to do with the alcohol ban? I am not saying everyone who drinks on the floats are p*** heads, but being able to consume alcohol on the floats perhaps gave people the dutch courage they needed and at the same time they were able to have fun too.

Think its all to do with health & safety that there was less floats but what there was was fantastic. How good was the Dickens one! That was some amount of work. Anyone hear who the winners were? The only thing that I thought was stupid was the number of cars squeezing down by the church trying to get into the carpark, thought that was a bit dangerous as the cars were pushing there way through people. Anyone else agree? Think the road should have been shut to cars.

Wick Police didnt exactly help matters when they said they were stopping boys & girls drinking in public [disgust], no drink on the floats???

Aye well done plod , you are on the verge of killing off Wick`s pride & Joy, hope yer pleased with yourselves , everyone I spoke to was very Pd off with you(which was a lot of people tbh)

Back to the floats, wonderful effort by all concerned hopefully we get 10 next year

Delighted to hear 'What the Dickens' got the supreme award! They are always such an entertaining float! They had a right crowd round them at the Riverside watching the off-float dancing entertainment!! Well done you guys again!!

What a brilliant show by Wick! Loads of smiling faces, major effort put into the floats and costumes, weather looks OK, plenty of people...

Another excellent advert for our County!

(And ace photos as well!)

Right or wrong, the parade always involved having a drink, for many participants and spectators.

Having to stay soberer than usual, in order to be in the Gala simply does not compute, for the sort of revellers who made the Wick Gala Parade a big success over the years.

It may now gradually deteriorate to a couple of trailers of kids and flowers, like some parades in the South.

Brilliant display of floats and walkers, well done to Wick folk, great effort put in to it. Only complaint and nothing to do with Gala is that I fancied some chips but both chip shops were closed, what would we do without the Chinese and Indian restaurants ??

To be fair, there's something to be said for a smaller number of better floats, which we did see last night.

Perhaps incomers into the area don't know how to go about putting on a float? ie When entries need to be in; topics, and where to source costume etc?

i think they should put a bit in the paper every year a month or two before gala explaining how to enter a float, what rules apply etc.
people seem to cling onto someone elses float as they dont know how to go about doing one of their own.
might help the numbers rise!

Good idea Annemarie. Also if they put a bit in encouraging people to do a float and contacted the hauliers before hand and asked them how many trailers they had available for the Gala and put that in the paper too. The old excuse from the Committee " Its hard to get a trailer " wears a little thin after time.

Check your facts Amy, lots of heresay & rumour about. Plod innocent until proven guilty methinks. Anyway, where theres a will, theres a way, necessity is the mother of invention etc, etc. I've never seen so many 'soft drinks' before on a Gala Night

to be honest i dont think the police would of mind if there was a few tins of beer going about on saturday night. i mean as long as there was nobody doing nothing stupid that could put there self or any body else in any kind of trouble.i dont think they would be taking every one up to the cell just because they are having a little dram thats just wasting police time and the fun of the entertainer.and as for not so many floats this year maybe its just that the younger generation just fancys going off out on foot now.or maybe with all the hard work that goes into making a float maybe they think there is little in return i really dont know. but well done every one for doing there best to turn it into a fantastic show for everyone.

I finally managed home for Gala night (after a long number of years, unfortunately) and thought the floats, although fewer than I remember, were great - a lot of work put in by those involved. The walkers were also worth seeing. Congratulations to all. The only thing that spoiled the parade was the driver of one of the big floats who seemed to think it was great fun showing off to his pals and blowing the "air horn" on the cab roof while stopped right in front of very young children. As a result, my young grandson was terrified as was another child of similar age nearby and they both had to be taken away from the parade. As a result, my wife and the mother of the other child, missed most of the parade. Most disappointing...........

If I had a complaint (apart from a bad case of Portnoy's), it would be that there were not enough loud horns to drown out the squalling bairns.
