Red Hot Pokers

Does any one know of a humane way to stop the birds eating our lovely display of Red Hot Pokers, because they're not going to last that long at this rate - is there a spray that will not harm the flowers and the birds ?

Let the poor birdies have their fill, because if the birds don't get the pokers the wind will. Only spray that may be effective is that from a tom cat with all his bits still intact. The stink from that would put anything off.
