Use this thread to ask any questions about our design competition (http://forum.caithness.org/announcement.php?f=11).

It looks like fun, Niall! :)

A quick question that sprang to mind which I can't see you have covered is:

"Can someone submit more than one design, or is the competition limited to one entry per person?"

Thanks!

Is the type of design to be based on a logo design style

You can submit as many entries as you like, however only one of your designs can be shortlisted.

Entirely up to you, whatever style you would like to submit is fine with us.

  That is really funny, Gus! And after the bash last night, I imagine that one or two will be feeling slightly 'ogreish' too...

Hi again when the maximum size is 1000 pixels wide and 1400 pixels high whats that in cms please

How many cms? That will depend on your pixel/cm setting.

But you're looking at about the size of an A4 sheet. Really big designs can be reduced in size but quality is pretty bad if they have to be enlarged.

Any special requirements for vector designers? and any limit on the number of colours?

how do you submit the drawings ?

submit to niall@caithness.org

As for vector images, from what I understand (I haven't worked with vector images):

All designs must be suitable for plot printing.

Please save your vector design as an .eps file!

Your entire graphic must be designed in Curves. Texts must also be completely in curves.

a design like this:
http://www.spreadshirt.net/fileadmin/gfx/visuals/druckquali/sm2.gif

would print like this:
http://www.spreadshirt.net/fileadmin/gfx/visuals/druckquali/sm3.gif

so should be designed like this:
http://www.spreadshirt.net/fileadmin/gfx/visuals/druckquali/sm4.gif

Hope that makes some sense...

also, if you are submitting vectors, could you attach a jpeg version for previewing porpoises :)

I think that some of the creative gals are starting to work on a design. It sounded all rather exciting to me.

Could we have bumper stickers as one of the items for purchase? It seems to me that it was the sighting of a bumper sticker by Susan.Leith in Edinburgh that got the whole ball rolling on this one.

I don't think we use bumper stickers on this side of the pond - but it would be good if we had car stickers and they could be converted to bumper stickers for our Orgers across the pond.
