What breed of dog do you own- and what determined your choice of pooch?

Standard Poodle.

Daughter has allergies so picked a non shedding dog, also the wife has had poodles before and they are full of fun.

Chocolate Lab.
Rescue dog from balmore, she was in such a mess when we got her, but, it was her good nature and sad eyes, that made us take her home!
Before that all we had was springer spaniels as they are soft lumps...mad, daft, energetic and dirt magnets but loving and loyal.

Shetland Collie.

This is my third as I love their gentleness but cheeky nature and how good they are with cats.

I have a yellow lab....cos that's what I had when I was away from home and she kept me sane (well sort of sane) and couldn't do the country bit without one, she is loyal, patient with kids and also is a dog with a job. I also have two russells just because I like them and they are small enough for road trips in the lorry, and they also are energetic and play well with my kids...they too have a job so are little helpers!

Jack Russell, like kathy@watten always wanted one, now wouldnt be without him he is a star, good with kids, lovely personality took him for his first camping trip this year and we all had a brilliant time, at the end of the day he picked us, best decision we made :D:D

A chihuahua, I adore small dogs and was torn between a yorkie and a chi, ended up with a Chi and I adore him so much. He is the sweetest wee doggie and is a great breed of dog to have, very low maintenance and loves his walks, very intelligent as well.

He is pretty hyper and very wary of strangers though.

I will always have a chihuahua now!

I have a Jack Russell too (who also loved camping until a motorbike backfired and scared her witless when we were in the tent one night) I was brought up with Shetland Collies and then Russells and when I left home and the time was right to get my own dog a litter of JR's came up first.
She was 16 today and still as daft as ever :D

A rottie, he was a rescue from fife but originally from wales, an american bull dog a rescue from balmore and an american bull dog cross mastiff? from the dog warden.
why? i'm a big softee with a love of large dogs who otherwise have bad names but in the right hands can be wonderful animals and pets :) it takes time and effort and maybe a few scars (an old gsd gave me a few with a big battle of wills lol) but in the end it's worth it for the love and trust and loyalty they show.

Great Dane cos they're the best breed ever and I used to show them.
German Shepherds cos hubby mistakenly thinks they're the best breed ever.
Shih Tzu we got from an orger who incidentally hasn't been at all interested in how she's doing despite her vow that she'd keep in touch.
A Yorkie Terrier who is now either 14 or 15, pretty much blind and selectively deaf. Swapped an old Orange Austin Allegro for him as a puppy - think we got the better deal though cos I doubt that car has given anyone 15 years of loyalty.

A lurcher who looked at me from his cage 10 years ago and seemed to say please take me home! I certainly did not need a 4th dog but he definitely needed a home. A bearded collie who came home with me for a bit of tlc as I picked him on a Saturday and was going to put him to kennels on Monday that was 5 years ago! definite hazzard of the job lol.

They are both the most special dogs ever and have given me so much over the years in love, laughs and companionship. Would not be without them. Dogs have a habit of finding you when you are least expecting it I never set out to get either of them they just happened. My happy accidents :Razz

German shepherd as ive always loved the breed ive had them throughout my life one i have now i got from the dog warden and she is amazing a true loyal comapnion with loads of love to give, she is good with the kids loves to play with them wouldnt be without her.
and

Malalute x shepherd she is the most playful bug softie out only a baby just now but a lovely nature and great with the kids, a handful on the lead but she will grow and train out of that.

and in the last 2 months ive had the pleasure of fostering 2 sibes and they are a total different kettle of fish to any other breed ive encountered, they need plenty of mental stimuli and exercise as they cannot be let of their lead due to their hunting tendancies, they love to talk to you and play, but are very independant, they are not a pet they are a way of life but i wouldnt hesitate in having another on a short term basis, they are a lovely breed that are very misunderstood.

Yellow lab - he was looking for a place to go and I had a place I could offer him.
Chocolate lab - we'd decided to get a fiend for the above and the choccy was advertised on the org at the right time. He was hard work but a real education.
Dobermann - Husband had banged on about getting one for years and I finally relented, went to Dobermann Welfare in Glasgow for her and am now converted to them.
Whippet - Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Have also had short term - GSD, rottie, shih-tzu (sp?), border collie, springer.

From now on it'll be dobermann's all the way, though I was eyeing up a lovely rottie at the county show the other day - could have taken him home.

2 doodles (labxpoodle & retreiverxpoodle) because they are the biggest softest, most loveable lumps out there and labradors cos every home should have one

2 greyhounds.

Just because I feel a breed that is as rediculously overbred as greyhounds are, need as much help as they can get. 10,000+ greyhounds die every year. That's FAR too many without homes.

Rottie and terrier x

My third rescue rottie, could not imagine life without ma boy - they are fantastic dogs and i have 2 toddler girls and he is no bother what so ever, always makes me smile with his antics - although some people are very over reactive when they see him

Would love a Rottie always liked the breed and they are very misunderstood and wrongly branded as aggressive dogs, after all is said and done dogs are like children they are all blank canvasses its us as their owners and teachers that make them into what they become. :)

i have a 6 month old black lab and had a golden lab before that.
labradors are so laid back and adoring its impossible not to love them!
you can do anything with them, they are very intelligent and loyal dogs.
my Ozzy rolls around the floor most of the day with my three and one yr olds, they adore him. he's the third child in our family! lol
will always be a labrador owner x

Have 2 staffies. 1 Red boy 1 Brindle girl.
Absolutely love staffies, nicest nature in any dog ive ever known. Very intelligent and love a good long walk and what i call "stick time". Chasing sticks can be great fun!!!!!
Almost bought a Bulldog but he was crossed with a mastiff so decided against it as I dont think that mixture works so well. Always wanted a bullie though.

A pedigree whippet who came to me by fate and is the most loyal and loving dog and a whippet bedlington but she is more whippet.
Fantastic dogs to own, great with kids, great companions and you never know they are in the house (unless you trip over one behind you) [lol]
I had boxers before but had so many health issues with them that it was heartbreaking and I felt they did not have the quality of life they should have had if they had not had such problems.

A mongrel - he looked at us as a pup 14 years ago in Balmore and we were hooked - now he's a grand old man with old man's bad habits e.g. selective deafness

I've just taken ownership of a lovely wee dog, he is a Chinese Crested Powder Puff. I've had him 2 days and so far all is going well. He maybe needs a bit more socialising but other than than that he is a delight.
I was worried he might not like my small furries but so far he doesn't seem that bothered by the rabbits although he is taking a fair bit of interest in the degus (probably because they squeak a lot like a toy):)

Border Terriers - they are great in the house, total lap dogs. Brilliant with the baby but can be a nightmare with other dogs.

mine is a staff - unbelievable as i had a massive dislike for this breed - but she picked me as a 12 week old pup and came to me by chance a few weeks later (her name is a nickname of mine but i didnt know that at the time) - i love her very much, she is perfect in every way and just the BEST other than a bit of snoring lol[lol]
