Very interesting article, and quite surprising! Basically it says people who are drowning don't wave their arms in the air and shout/splash, but are very still and it can be very hard to detect!

Scary!

Scary!

Very especially when you understand that people who are drowning are usually unable to cry out for help. Just the exact opposite of what I previously believed. It really is important to be vigilant then. A very good article and well woth a read. Thanks.

Yes the ones screaming and thrashing are panicking.
They are the ones that are the most dangerous to rescue by going in for them.... they may very well drown you! By grabbing and clinging on and putting you under and not letting go!

The quiet ones barely moving very low down in the water are the ones in trouble and exhausted.

You are taking me back to my bronze medallion training I did as a teenager in the pool:lol:

remember my first aid trainer telling us this, he was swimming in the aquadrome in inverness and he was swimming across the pool and he passed a girl and he carried on swimming, stopped thought about it and turn ed and went back to the lassie who was slowly sinking not moving a muscle, he said when he looked in her eyes she was terrified but couldna move a muscle. so as you say it isna the ones who are roaring it's the one which are not

And another thing... if you get them out the water and they look ok its still best they go to A&E as they may have water in their lungs and could suffer from secondary drowning...
Better to be safe than sorry!
Its really scary isnt it?
