Well as they would have been born in 1992 so I would play a tune or two number 1's from then e.g;

The Shamen Ebeneezer Goode (http://www.number-ones.co.uk/The-Shamen-number-ones/Ebeneezer-Goode.html)

Whitney Houston I Will Always Love You (http://www.number-ones.co.uk/Whitney-Houston-number-ones/I-Will-Always-Love-You.html)

Either that or the Automatic - Monster, is always a crowd pleaser

Black Lace - Agadoo also I a personal favorite of mine.

Ask the person whose party it is?

What you're getting here is what other people like - the people at the party are the ones who need to like it.

Tunes from the year I was born mean nothing to me because they made no impression on me at the time.

You are speaking for yourself I think.

I, for example, do not particularly appreciate Michael Jackson - I'm a bit too old for that. However we were asked for suggestions and I suggested an iconic figure of the day singing a song in 1992. A significant musical event from the year the 18 year old was born. Seems appropriate to me.

N'assume pas!

Lol I never presume to speak for anyone else.

The point I was trying to make was the playlist should resonate with an 18-year-old, so the best people to advise on the genre are people of that age group.

Perhaps there are no shoulds here? As with other age groups they are all different and with different tastes.

If its an 18th then they are going to be a bit blasted, I have done a bit of DJ'ing in ther past and always found that this went down well with teenagers .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAIkcNw1ZhA&feature=fvw .. some might remember it from a famous renault ad.

Or you could try this for a bit of dancey stuff once they are up and running .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No0wEyyGkeY

Or maybe even this .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSEf-Ggfa7g

This always go down well for a bit of a singalong once they know the words .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReFLUJjAeqI&feature=related

Or even this .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H5uWRjFsGc

And this, just beczuse its a classic and once a party is up and running it ALWAYS goes down well .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZGcw9HHOkU

As for Whitney Houston like Invisible suggested, I would use that to clear the place if you need to !!

But if you need a good slow song for the end of the night then this always worked for me .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRo79fVMvMs

Absolutely agree. But if the event is intended to make someone of a particular generation feel special, it makes sense to play stuff that appeals to that generation, rather than what older generations might like.

Hey torisdale - have you had the party? If yes, how did it go and what did ya play? If I am not too late tho - yer "locally" immediately made me think of a song I heard played on CD (by a local band) in a coffee establishment in Thurso. For some reason I always associate it with home now and even more weirdly I was clickin on the Duck's links above and here was the tune in the suggestions of the Harvey Danger page well actually it was a cover and I seem to be havin difficulty playin it - flashplayer maintenance required methinks - anyhow here's 'e Pogues! :D

PS If I am too late I still accept retrospective rep - Jox taught me to be a rep tart!!!

Just play whatever is on their ipod!
And if really clever look up the backlog of no 1 hits on their birthday and play them...along with showing photos of them at every age...should mortify but please them you went to the effort.

Going to be using my laptop, went and bought a PPL one off event broadcasting license just to be on the safe side. Got lots of photos of him as a kind that I will be sticking up around the place and also got the audio of an old video where he was singing solo back in primary school.

+rep thanks for suggestion.
